- Enterprise and Growth Unit
- The Enterprise and Growth Unit (EGU) promotes sustainable economic growth and higher productivity for the UK. We provide analysis and advice on enterprise, innovation, private sector investment and a cost-effective transition to a low-carbon economy. The Enterprise and Growth Unit has a varied and exciting agenda and we work closely with a wide variety of other teams across the Treasury.
- We also work alongside other departments and government organisations to ensure that we are thinking creatively, spending wisely and acting boldly to deliver these goals. These organisations are:
- the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy,
- the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs,

The Market Frameworks, Assets and Economic Security (MAES) team is a multifaceted and enthusiastic team which covers several important policy areas. The team’s role includes:
- Shaping the UK’s corporate governance frameworks, and HMT’s policy on the UK Internal Market;
- Designing a UK subsidy control regime and working on international subsidy issues;
- Leading HMG’s approach to economic based threats to national security;
- Advising ministers on economic security company cases.

This role will be in the Market Frameworks branch of MAES (consisting of 6 people), leading our sub-branch (consisting of 2 people) working on corporate frameworks and UK internal market policy.
- Corporate frameworks policy essentially covers how companies are organised and run, and the check and balances on them to build an environment in which business can thrive - such as audit policy, insolvency frameworks, company directors’ duties, and more. On the UK internal market, this will be about maintaining the free flow of goods and services between all parts of the UK, to ensure a dynamic economy across the UK.-
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:

- 1. Lead HMT’s thinking on how reforms to corporate frameworks can support economic growth, spotting upcoming opportunities and taking a creative and innovative approach, leading to well-evidenced pro-growth recommendations to ministers.
- 2. Build and maintain a wide network, collaborating closely with BEIS, the Insolvency Service, and others to ensure timely and effective delivery of meaningful policy programmes.
- 3. Lead HMT’s interests in UK Internal Market policy, including developing a strategy for the Treasury’s approach to handling potential divergence in the UK’s internal market, in a way that accommodates political and economic objectives.
- 4. Run a wide portfolio of distinct and div
