**Job Title**:Children and Young People Art Therapist
**Hours**:24 hours per week
**Salary**:£27,087.85 pro rata

**Job Purpose**
To support children and young people affected by domestic abuse to express, reflect and process their emotions and to make meaning of their experiences through the use of Art
Therapy; to enable change and growth through the use of art materials in a safe and facilitating environment.
**Main Duties**
Children’s Work
- To provide a qualified specialist Art Therapy service to children and young people affected by domestic abuse who are referred through EWA’s Children and Young People’s Services.
- To assess the suitability of Art Therapy from Edinburgh Women’s Aid, for individual children.
- To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and historical and developmental factors and processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
- To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other disciplines and agencies working with children and young people.
- To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in Art Therapy, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of Art Therapy and related disciplines.
- To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a range of supports for CYP affected by domestic abuse.
- Carry responsibility for a defined caseload and offer specialist clinical advice including the assessment of support needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of support within the service.
- To be able to identify the needs of children and young people who have been in an abusive situation and develop a therapeutic plan.
- To ensure children and young people are listened to and that their needs and rights are recognised and met.
- To work in partnership with other agencies involved in the child’s life to ensure that the child’s needs and rights are addressed.
- To work in a non-judgemental, non-competitive and non-violent manner.
- To continue to develop the child centred rights-based approach to services within Edinburgh Women’s Aid Ltd.
- To work within the regulatory requirements of all relevant bodies.
Family Work
- To work collaboratively with the CYP’s carer to ensure a consistent, safe and informed support.
Administrative Tasks
- To keep clear and comprehensive records and care plans and be responsible for maintaining organisational records and administration.
- Write clear and concise reports for agencies as required i.e. Children’s Hearing.
- To facilitate an information and resource exchange and offer mutual support with other workers and agencies.
- To ensure the safe and confidential keeping, maintenance and (where appropriate) disposal of the art work produced by the children, in line with BAAT guidelines.
- To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self
- governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British
Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and the Health and Care Professions Council(HCPC).
- To contribute to funding reports through case studies and report writing.
**Other Tasks**
- Promote and adhere to the aims and objectives of the organisation.
- Attend and participate in multi-agency meetings and case conferences.
- Adherence to Edinburgh Women's Aid’s child protection policy.
- Attend supervision sessions and team meetings.
- To support one Art Therapy Volunteer (identifying cases and sharing practice)
- Develop children and young person’s work in line with the wider organisational developments, legislative changes and recognition of changing needs.
- Liaise with all relevant agencies.
- To liaise with all Women’s Aid workers and joint work cases where appropriate.
- To undertake training as necessary.
- To take an active part in CPD and keep up to date with recent evidence and best practice in relation to child psychological therapies.
