A fast-paced role within the busy payroll department of a highly regarded public sector organisation. The role of the Payroll Officer is to provide day-to-day control of a section of the organisation's payroll ensuring a consistently high level of performancedelivery in a confidential, accountable, and customer-focused manner.

My client is an extremely praised public sector organisation who are located in York. My client runs a fast-paced payroll department, which is responsible for running a large high volume of payroll for its staff. It is an exciting and progressive opportunity.
**Description**
The role of the Payroll Officer will be:
- Ensure consistent high level of performance delivery in a confidential, accountable, and customer-focused manner
- Deals with court, council tax, student loans, and child support deductions from salary ensuring adherence to legislative requirements.
- Calculates pay termination payments including payments in lieu of notice ensuring the correct treatment for tax and national insurance liability.
- Ensures the accurate execution of all permanent changes to employee records (e.g. starters, leavers, transfers, promotions)
- Deals with inquiries often none routine from statutory/non-statutory bodies, e.g. solicitors, building societies/banks, finance managers, and employees often of a sensitive nature, accurately and efficiently and in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
**Profile**
The successful Payroll Officer will:
- The post holder will be able to analyse detailed financial information from various sources to identify errors and omissions and sort out problems from a range of options often involving complex calculations with the support of the Payroll Team Manager.
- Knowledge of a full range of payroll payment procedures. This will include all statutory and national terms and conditions of service
- The role requires an absolute working understanding of the department's accounting software systems and the ability to perform word processing and spreadsheet creation and analysis
