**Job summary**:
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the department for promoting British trade across the world and ensuring the UK takes advantage of the huge opportunities available. The department develops, coordinates and delivers trade and investment policies to promote UK business internationally. DIT also develops and negotiates Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), endeavouring to expand market access for UK businesses and trade partners around the world.
The Government currently has ambitious plans to negotiate FTAs with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), India, Mexico, Canada and Israel. The Government is also seeking accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). There is a need for DIT analysts to be closely involved with these negotiations, working with the country negotiating teams.
The Trade Agreements Analysis (TAA) team provide high-quality evidence to drive the design, negotiation and evaluation of trade policy instruments which enhance trade and investment with the UK’s key partners, with a strong focus on free trade agreements.
The Trade Agreements Analysis (TAA) team is a multi-disciplinary analysis team.
As a country lead, you will provide analysis directly to the Chief Negotiators to set out the evidence base underpinning strategic and policy issues. You will also have the opportunity to publish analysis on the impacts of trade deals before the launch of trade negotiations and at the end of negotiations.
The post offers the opportunity to work at the heart of delivering on a Government priority and to use your analytic skills to directly shape trade and investment policy and negotiations.
**Job description**:
Leading, planning and delivering the programme of analysis to underpin the UK negotiation of a trade agreement with a key partner. This will involve:
- Supporting the public consultation including developing key analytical products for publication.
- Providing analytical input into the development of the UK’s negotiating mandate and support the negotiation.
- Providing input to briefs for policy and country leads to responding to PQs, FOIs and submissions to Ministers, as well as more in-depth analysis of individual countries and sectors.
- Line management of an assistant analyst and the leadership and coordination of work from other analysts in the department to support the policy development.
- Leading and coordinating analysis OGDs and external academics to deliver analysis to support the UK’s trade policy objectives.
- Using of statistics and economic data from a wide range of both published and unpublished UK and international sources to identify the most suitable information, key messages and trends (and propose conclusions) to support bi-lateral and multilateral discussions with partner countries.
- Working closely and flexibly with the rest of team to support changing resource demands.
**Hybrid Working**
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.
Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.
Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
