Would you relish an opportunity to shape and influence policy to deliver benefits to rail passengers?

If so, we are seeking self-motivated and hardworking individuals to support our fares policy team, and we would love to hear from you.

**Job description**:
These roles sit within our Policy, Operations and Change (POC) Directorate which is responsible for setting the policy and strategic direction for rail passenger services. We are leading on the implementation of the Plan for Rail’s recommendations on a range of reforms, including reforms to fares and ticketing.

As one of our Fares Policy Advisers, you will take a leading role in shaping how rail passenger fares are set in the future, and lead on initiatives to address challenges facing rail passengers and the industry, such as the increasing cost-of-living and rail revenue recovery post-Covid. You will advise and brief the Departments senior leaders and Ministers on these important issues.

This high-profile work attracts significant attention from Parliament, the media, and the public. You will lead on parliamentary briefing and correspondence, handling responses to a wide variety of external and cross-government partners.

- Supporting on business-as-usual fares policy work to ensure that we manage fares revenue effectively and optimise growth
- Working with colleagues to develop, implement and deliver commitments in the Plan for Rail White Paper on rail reform in relation to fares and ticketing policies
- Working flexibly across Passenger Experience Policy team to support the delivery of other Plan for Rail reform commitments on fares, ticketing and retail transformation
- Supporting the work of the wider passenger experience policy team with contributions to briefings and advice to our senior leaders
- Leading on the resolution of day-to-day regulatory issues and providing analysis for complex issues that need to be referred to more senior colleagues.

You will have the option to be based either in London attracting the London pay scale, or in Leeds or Birmingham attracting the national pay scale. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings.

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

**Person specification**:
