**Autism Teaching Assistant - Cockermouth**

Sense Education is seeking a **compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant** to join a specialist provision in **Cockermouth**, working with young people aged **16-25** with **Autism and complex needs**. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact by helping learners develop essential life skills, communication strategies, and the confidence to thrive beyond the classroom.

**The Role**

As an **Autism Teaching Assistant**, you’ll work closely with students on a **life-skills-based curriculum**, supporting both their **emotional and practical development**. Working 1:1 and in small groups, you'll help young people gain independence and navigate everyday challenges, both in school and the wider community.

Your Day-to-Day:

- Support students with **communication and social interaction**, using strategies such as **PECS, Makaton, and visual schedules**:

- Assist with **life skills activities** such as cooking, travel training, budgeting, or work placements
- Provide calm, structured support to promote **emotional regulation**:

- Help deliver **individual learning plans** tailored to each student’s needs
- Encourage **independence and confidence**, both in the classroom and during community-based learning
- Support **personal care** needs where required, with dignity and respect

**Hours & Schedule**
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
- No weekends
- Long-term; Full-time or Part-time considered
