This post is part of the Chief Operating Officer Directorate. The purpose of the COO Directorate is to lead on operational performance and improvement for the South East Region including:
monitoring performance against annual operating plans and constitutional standards
delivering bespoke improvement support to systems via the virtual improvement hub to optimise their overall performance and reduce unwarranted clinical variation
leading the co-ordination of regional operational planning and assurance
supporting the delivery of effective and efficient use of resources across the health service
A key part of the COO Directorate is the Regional Data and Analytics team. This team works across all Directorates within the region, with individual responsibilities flexing according to regional priorities. The roles being recruited to, may cover any of the following areas: Population Health, Public Health, Primary Care, Mental Health, Ops, Flow and Health Inequalities team. However, the role may flex with business needs, potentially covering other programme areas such as urgent and emergency care as well as planned care.
As an Analytical Officer, you will deliver a high-quality data analytics service to regional colleagues using and building upon extensive knowledge of NHS data, excellent technical skills in statistics, data management, business intelligence and analytics, such as data modelling, data visualisation and data blending.
Example projects include supporting an analytical team in monitoring performance of systems; forecasting based on data models; prescriptive analytics based on triangulation across analytical tools; and data-driven storytelling to support the improvement and delivery of health services. The team is developing technical skills to build and share reproducible code and further enhance our suite of automated analytical products.
For this post, proven analytical skills in R, SQL, Tableau, or the equivalent, are particularly welcomed, along with enthusiasm to share knowledge and help other team members develop skills in these areas. A passion for learning new skills is also welcomed.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.
