As part of Criminal and Financial Investigation (CFI), Cyber & Digital Capabilities (CDC) provides comprehensive digital forensics services to support Immigration Enforcement operations and criminal investigations. This includes the acquisition of data from digital devices as well as the subsequent processing and analysis of resultant data to provide actionable evidence.

**Job description**:
The Technical Officer role will be involved in design, and implementation of all technical methods employed to deliver the forensic services that support CFI cases. This will include overseeing the validation and competency requirements for technical methods, as well as quality assuring these as standard operating procedures which can be reliably applied by our team of Forensic Practitioners, both within and outside of laboratory environments, as well as on-site during search and seizure deployments.

The Forensic Science Regulator (“FSR”) has provided clear instruction that all forensic service providers within the criminal justice system become compliant with the FSR Codes and Practice of Conduct (“FSR Codes”) as well as relevant ISO standards (17020 & 17025) for the conduct of digital forensics activities.

The Technical Manager will therefore be responsible for ensuring all technical activities are aligned to enable UKAS accreditation to the required standard(s) and FSR Code Compliance.

**Key responsibilities**

Reporting to the Technical Manager, and working with Digital Forensic practitioners and the Quality Team the role shall include, but not be limited to:

- Implementation of technical procedures across all Forensic Science disciplines conducted by Cyber and Digital Capabilities to deliver and maintain ISO17020 and 17025 accreditation and compliance with the FSR Codes.
- Develop and maintain validation and verification processes to ensure that all hardware, software and methods used to conduct a Forensic Science Activity are fit for purpose.
- Develop, maintain and ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) including adherence to Quality Procedures (QP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
- Work with Digital Forensic Practitioners, and the Quality Team to deliver continuous process improvement across all Forensic Science Activities conducted by CDC and CFI.
- Coordinate the participation in Inter-Lab Comparisons (ILC) and Proficiency Testing (PT), prepare ILC material as required and review, report and investigate the results of the CDC’s submissions as appropriate.
- Assist with the competence testing of all Digital Forensic Practitioners and CFI staff conducting Forensic Science Activities.
- Manage and advance your own continual professional development and that of the organisation, within the digital forensic environment including changes to technology and legislation.

**Essential Criteria**
- Experience of contributing to a quality management system, such as the production of standard operating procedures, participating in internal auditing, and the implementation of competency and validation frameworks to meet the needs of the FSR Codes, ISO17025 and ISO17020.
- Advanced, in-depth knowledge of digital forensics tools and techniques, including but not limited to, disk imaging, mobile device data extraction, data processing and analysis.
- A sound understanding of common storage technologies, operating systems, and file systems.
- Successful completion of relevant digital forensics courses such as, ADF and / or mobile device software such as MSAB XRY, Cellebrite or Graykey.
