We are the Environment Agency. We are inspiring the people we work with to help the country to not only survive but thrive through the challenges of a changing climate. We want to keep people safe and protect the things that matter to us all - our natural spaces, our wildlife, and our future.
- We have a permanent opportunity for a Flood Resilience Engagement Advisor in Wessex, who will be responsible for strategically planning, prioritising, and delivering engagement with communities, business, and our partners for the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) department. You’ll empower them to prepare for flooding and become resilient by developing flood plans and promoting the Flood Warning Service.
- Internally, you will work closely with other FCRM engagement advisors to help co-ordinate engagement activities across the department to ensure our work is targeted, effective, innovative, and efficient. You will also coach others to deliver effective engagement.
The team
- You will be joining a high performing team that has 3 main areas of accountability: Flood Incident Management, Flood Warning and Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Engagement. The team is based between 2 offices; Bridgwater and Blandford. We ensure that ourselves, our partners and our communities are prepared for flooding and are able to respond effectively before, during and after a flood. This role sits within the engagement function of the team.
Experience/skills required
- You’ll be an excellent communicator and confident in engaging with people, gained through experience in a community and/or partner engagement role. You will be a quick-learner, with a strong customer-focus, and a desire to make a difference.
- Leading projects and coaching others will come naturally to you. You'll be organised and have excellent attention to detail, ensuring our work is delivered to a high standard.
- You will also have:
- experience of the flood warning and incident management services, and an awareness of the systems and teams that support them;
- a good understanding of the key drivers and issues relating to our Flood Risk Management work
- experience with coaching or mentoring others to help build their technical engagement skills, and supporting their ongoing development
- a commitment to tackling the climate and ecological emergency through all areas of your work
Contact and additional information
- We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment.
- We support flexible working hours and practices including a hybrid way of working.
- We also encourage you to keep developing your skills and professional knowledge throughout your career.
