- Job description- This is an exciting opportunity to be in the heart of managing and maintaining our flood and coastal risk assets. We are looking for people with transferable skills who are keen to make a difference to the environment and people in the South West. We welcome applicants who are looking to learn more about Flood and Coastal Risk Management and Operations.
The successful applicant will be an integral member of our Strategy and Support team. You will work alongside two other Support Assistants and will be provided with all the help and support you require. There will be a requirement to work in either the Bridgwater or Blandford office two/three days a week.
Good communication skills are vital as you will be interacting with many internal teams and customers. You will be a team player who is happy to use their initiative working autonomously but equally happy taking direction and providing support. Excellent computer, data and mapping skills would be an advantage, along with a willingness to learn new computer systems and IT.
Typical duties include providing utility drawings, using asset databases and spreadsheets, responding to enquiries from teams/customers, data entry, improvement & management, providing administrative support to senior team members, setting up meetings and minute taking and providing financial support.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

- The team- We are a friendly and inclusive team who enjoy providing support and direction across our department in an open and professional way. The team sits within our Operations department and works across Wessex, which covers Bristol, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. The team includes Engagement, Data, Reservoir and Built Environment specialisms. We work closely with our Field Teams and Flood and Coastal Risk Management Teams.
- Experience/skills required-
The skills and experience we are looking for includes:

- an interest in flood and coastal risk management or asset management;
- excellent IT/data skills (including MS Office and Teams);
- the ability to pick up new processes and IT systems;
- effective communication with a variety of audiences;
- well organised with attention to detail;
- planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information to ensure tasks are completed on time and to a high standard;
- self-motivated, working well as part of a team and by yourself;
- experience of using GIS;
- managing priorities and different demands;
- commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to addressing the climate and ecological emergency through your work.
