The Henry Royce Institute (Royce) is the UK’s home for advanced materials research, innovation and commercialisation. The Royce’s Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub (SMIH) supports small to medium businesses from across Greater Manchester to find and adopt sustainable innovations to their materials needs. It will achieve this by bringing together materials science expertise and business intelligence to offer a defined workflow of ‘Advice’, ‘Assess’ and ‘Innovate’ to understand where businesses can make efficiencies, realise opportunities and avoid unintended consequences in their plastics and materials management, whether this be through adopting new sustainable materials, innovating in waste management, or promoting material circularity.

We are seeking an Industrial Liaison Officer to be responsible for assisting small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Greater Manchester LEP area to accelerate innovation in sustainable materials. You will play a crucial role in engaging businesses on projects, both in the provision of advice and in managing the transition to assessment and through translating innovation. You will work closely with the SMIH Director and wider technical and research teams to support SMEs throughout their journey.

A strong academic or experiential understanding of sustainability, from either a scientific, engineering, innovation or business perspective is essential, as is experience in managing projects and/or contracts with multiple partners in a technical environment. You will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to understand and communicate key technological aspects of sustainable materials science.
