**SEMH / SEN Teaching Assistant** **Role location: Middlesbrough** **Starting date: Immediately** **Salary: £85-£100 per day** **Monday-Friday 8:30am-3.30pm** Empowering Learning are currently working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Middlesbrough who require Teaching Assistants to start ASAP. This role will be challenging but ultimately rewarding and a great way of gaining more complex experience. **SEN Behaviour Mentor Jobs** Special educational needs (SEN)behaviour mentors will work with school staff to provide support and guidance to children who experience difficulties in learning due to social, behavioural or emotional problems. As a behaviour mentor, you could work on a one-to-one basis or with a small group. By working as an SEN behaviour mentor, you should be prepared and ready to make an important and serious commitment to someone. You will spend a considerable amount of time with children who need you to show your faith and patience in their abilities, making the most of your sessions together. Within this job role is it important to encourage the children to communicate with you, finding a way together to overcome any behavioural problems and progress in education. Some typical responsibilities could include, supporting pupils inside and outside the classroom, helping pupils increase their confidence and self-esteem and agreeing and writing action plans to deal with problems. We work tirelessly with the best schools across Teesside to cover all aspects of the SEN teaching sector, which includes: **This role will involve**: - Supporting children with challenging behaviour and SEND on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups. - Build positive relationships with students and staff - Managing challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive manner. - Having a "hands on" approach to supporting children in their learning, with a willingness to interact with young people and develop new skills. - High levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity when working with children. - Working with teachers to ensure children receive the best possible educational experience. Have a creative approach to teaching and provide not only academic but also emotional and pastoral support to pupils. The teaching assistant will be committed, dedicated and resilient, whilst understanding the reasons why children can display challenging behaviour and be able to de-escalate and support children proactively. Support children in a non-judgemental, non-confrontational manner. Be able to work independently and as part of a team and show initiative. Demonstrate that they are effective teaching assistants that have a wealth of experience in supporting teaching, learning, SEND pupils and children that display complex and challenging behaviours. Understand the role of a teaching assistant in supporting the class teacher and ensuring the learning environments are maintained to a high standard.
