**Job Purpose**
The Attendance and Welfare Officer will play an integral role in ensuring our learners and their families are receiving the support they need to thrive and achieve in all aspects of their lives. The role involves collaboration with families, internal and external professionals to engage the students and identify barriers for engagement. The attendance and welfare officer will have the privilege of advocating for our young people in a multi agency arena to ensure that they are heard and supported whilst equipping them with the tools they need to support their social, emotional and mental health.
**Key Responsibilities**
**1. Safeguarding**
- Act as one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for the AP, ensuring adherence to all safeguarding policies and procedures. You will report to the Head of AP and the DSL.
- Respond promptly to attendance concerns, including disclosures, and take appropriate actions in line with KCSIE 2024 and Navigators policies.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential records of safeguarding concerns and actions taken.
- Deliver training and updates to staff on safeguarding practices, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with external agencies, including children’s social care, to support vulnerable students and ensure effective multi-agency working.
**1. Pastoral Support**
- Provide emotional and practical support to learners experiencing personal challenges, including issues related to mental health, family circumstances, or social difficulties.
- Implement pastoral initiatives to promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the AP community.
- Monitor attendance and behavior patterns, addressing concerns promptly and supporting learners to overcome barriers to engaging.
- Foster positive relationships with parents/carers to support student welfare and promote engagement with the school.
**2. Administration and Reporting**
- Ensure all safeguarding documentation is up to date and to Navigators gold standard in line with KCSE (2024)
- Ensure there are open lines of communication and transparent working with all external partners in line with Working Together 2023
**Personal Specification**
**Essential**
- Degree in relevant field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience of safeguarding in an education setting
- Excellent English and maths abilities
- Proficient in using technology and digital tools
- Knowledge of safeguarding processes and procedures
- A valid driving license and access to a vehicle to travel to students' locations (with business insurance)
**Desirable**
- Level 3 in safeguarding
- MHFA
- Management experience
- Timely and effective response to safeguarding concerns, ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines and organisational guidelines.
- Positive feedback from students, staff, and parents regarding pastoral support.
- Successful delivery of safeguarding training and updates to staff.
- Reduction in persistent attendance or behavior concerns due to effective intervention.
- Evidence of collaboration with external agencies to provide holistic support to students.
- Up-to-date and compliant safeguarding policies and documentation.

Within our organisation this work is classified as Regulated Activity as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (SVGA). This role will include regular contact with Children and Adults in a 1:1 or group setting. This includes those that could be classified as vulnerable and both an understanding of and experience in adhering to UK safeguarding legislation is required.
