**Job summary**:
A part of the Cabinet Office, the** **Central Digital and Data Office** **leads the digital, data and technology (DDaT) function for government. We put the right conditions in place to achieve digital, data and technology transformation at scale by working with departments, and other government functions like commercial, project delivery and security professionals.
**We are responsible for**:
- Digital, Data and Technology Strategy and Standards, like the Technology Code of Practice, the Service Standard and Open Standards
- Cross-government DDaT performance and assurance, including Spend Controls
- DDaT Capability Development, including the DDaT pay framework
**Data Strategy & Standards are a Centre of Excellence and we are responsible for**:
- Providing leadership and support for government organisations to make better use of data. As per our team charter, we have a particular focus on:
- transforming the government's use of data to drive efficiency and improve public services in accordance with Mission 3 of the National Data Strategy and other data-related demands of the government. Through the execution of these initiatives, the DS&S directorate will contribute to improvements in the delivery of public services as well as improve government’s ability to measure the impact of policies and programmes, and ensure resources are used effectively
- collaborating with all government departments as well as external organisations and international bodies to identify, develop and promote adoption of data management standards and best practice
**Job description**:
As a Data Community Lead you’ll:
- Grow data communities including the Data Architecture, API and Data Sharing Practitioners communities and make connections with other communities by setting up and facilitating conversations and events, ensuring all involved have good visibility of work across DS&S
- Provide advice and guidance to people across DS&S to understand the value communities can bring to delivering their work and to make the most of those opportunities
- Develop the data communities to ensure a diverse group of people feel welcome, respected and supported
- Link up with external communities and events to help them understand both the work that Data Strategy and Standards and the relevant communities are doing, and the opportunities there are to work with us. This includes Data Connect
- Make sure that what we learn is documented and circulated in order to establish standards and contribute back to wider technical communities, for example through writing and circulating blogs, newsletters etc
- Help data community members find opportunities to develop in their careers
- Keep your technical knowledge on data up to date and decide how best to stay close to the work that is happening within the community
- Support your counterparts in other parts of government and build an active community that everyone in data across government can belong to and participate in
You will be expected to work flexibly and collaboratively on a range of projects where your expertise and skills are needed and will support a culture of agile working across your team.
**Person specification**:
This role requires:
- Demonstrable expertise in community management and engagement in a digital, data or technology field
- Experience in building an active, supportive community that helps its members learn
- Ability to energise interest and engage with an audience for example by means of public speaking, running workshops and events
- A commitment to providing great digital services
- A track record of successful performance management and building capability
- Strong organisational skills, preferably managing teams across organisational boundaries
- An ability to work at a fast pace and deliver
- Strong writing skills and with an understanding of governance structures
- Experience working in a matrix organisation structure and across organisational boundaries
- An understanding of data policy and standards and why they are important
- A wide-ranging interest in data and technology and implications they have for software development, web technologies and government in general
