We are looking for a committed Life Underwriter to join our team. You'll report directly to a manager based in our Exeter office, and although this will be your office base, we're open to chatting to experienced Underwriters who are happy and comfortable working from home, with occasional visits to the office when required (around 3 visits per year would be expected if you are working remotely, plus an initial week or two in the office for training). You’ll still be part of a wider team and have all the support you need, so whether you’re on the doorstep of the office or a bit further away, let’s talk about what an opportunity here could look like for you.

**About you**:
We are keen to hear from experienced medical underwriters with a background covering Life, Critical Illness and/or Income Protection claims. You will have gained this experience in a similar role, and be looking for a new challenge to further develop your skills and experience.

You’ll be a trustworthy individual, with the ability to work on your own initiative as well as within a team. You will have excellent time management skills and an awareness of SLA’s and KPI’s required.

Communication will come naturally to you, and you’ll be someone who can build rapport with customers and stakeholders. You’ll be professional and approachable, ensuring a customer’s journey with us is always excellent.

We use an internal system for the majority of our work, however some work will require the use of Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a demonstrated ability to use bespoke systems is required. You will likely have used various systems in the past and that is all good experience. Full training will be given on our internal platform.
- Be educated to A’ Level standard or equivalent (desirable)
- Have a genuine passion for underwriting bringing experience from Life, Critical Illness, Income Protection / Medical Underwriting
- Demonstrate good communication skills
- Be able to develop strong analytical skills
- Have the drive to develop and grow within the role

Previous experience of working in life or protection insurance would be highly advantageous, and evidenced completion of CII is highly desirable.

- Communicating with customers on a regular basis to gather further information where required.
- Taking part in underwriting rules development, analysis of management information, and implementation of rule engine changes.
- Working as part of a team to review the department’s processes and procedures, ensuring SLA’s are met.
- Achieving set productivity and quality levels.
- Maintaining your own up-to-date medical knowledge to sufficiently process the underwriting.
- Complying with all regulatory and statutory standards and controls.
