Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

We are looking for a resilient, enthusiastic and well-organised person who has previous experience of working with children and young people with speech and language or learning needs.
We have a team of nine Speech and Language Therapy Assistants who work closely with Speech and Language Therapists across a range of settings.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to teach and support others (e.g. setting staff, parents, other professionals)
- Enthusiasm and an ability to relate well to children and young people (0-19 years)
- The ability to work well as part of a team
- Resilience, and the ability to cope with change
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent IT skills - you should feel comfortable learning to use our online patient records system, learning to use software to develop tailored resources to support children, and learning to deliver interventions virtually as well as in person
- The ability to be flexible and respond to a number of different demands, which may be office-based or involve travelling to and working within different settings and with different people
- Creativity and problem-solving skills
- The ability to self-reflect and actively engage within a process of continuing professional development
- The Speech and Language Therapy Assistant will:
- Make materials to be used in therapy
- Make IT-based resources, e.g. communication passports
- File, arrange venues and set up training and/or clinic rooms
- Clean therapy equipment in accordance with SCFT's Infection Control Policy
- Assist in group work with children
- Work with individual children under the guidance of a therapist
- Use electronic notes to write up therapy notes
- Demonstrate therapy to school, setting staff and/or parents face to face
- Demonstrate therapy to school, setting staff and/or parents virtually
- Attend and participate in team meetings
- Organise training sessions for school staff
The Trust is supportive of staff training and development; we have access to funding from Education and Training as well as some funding at locality level. As a large service we also provide on a range of “in-house” training opportunities. We are a friendly and forward looking team.
