**VOLUNTEER ROLE PROFILE**

Advocates and together we will build confident, more health resilient communities.
**Impact**
As a Community Advocate you will help to raise the profile of first aid within your local community by helping us raise awareness of the first aid message, through the delivery of one hour first aid awareness sessions. You will be a motivated individual who already has community connections in your local area and is confident talking about first aid to groups of people. You will be organised and have the ability to plan your own sessions, with availability to suit the community group and yourself.
**Expected time commitment **Ideally at least two sessions per month
**Line managed by **Unit Manager, supported by the Community Engagement team
**What you would be involved in (responsibilities)**
Raise awareness of the importance of first aid skills through engagement with targeted communities (e.g. adult support groups, places of worship groups, community centre groups)
Provide first aid information to local community groups and associations through 1-hour awareness sessions
Distribute promotional materials to promote St John Ambulance and advocacy.
**What you would be accountable for**
Be prepared to volunteer in a variety of community groups and reach out to groups to plan sessions
We ask you to honour the commitments to volunteer and deliver sessions as agreed with the community
Enquiries from a centralised system may be sent to you, if you are available to deliver them.
**You will need to have the following (personal specification)**
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
Ability to motivate, inspire and support others
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of people
Enthusiasm for the work of St John Ambulance and the ability to model our values
Ability to work proactively and on own initiative, often alone
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to volunteer flexibly and across geographically dispersed locations
Strong listening, compassion and empathy skills ( _desirable_)
Strong planning and organisational skills ( _desirable_)

Sharing of first aid skills in your area.
**Training and support provided**
The training and support we will provide for you is as follows:
Welcome programme introducing you to the project & wider charity
Training in appropriate SJA policies
St John Safeguarding training relevant to your role
Online, classroom and on-the-job training as a Community Advocate
Out of pocket expenses.
SJA will provide uniform in this role.

This role profile is intended as an outline indicator of general areas of activity and will be amended considering the changing needs of St John Ambulance. It is expected that the post holder will be as positive and flexible as possible in using this document as a framework.
