**We have an a newly created opportunity for a Modern Matron (Surgical & Medical) to lead our nursing teams at The London Clinic to deliver exceptional specialist care for our patients within the inpatient surgical/medical service. This post is located at The London Clinic’s Main Hospital in London, W1G 6BW and we are offering a competitive inclusive salary range of £64,000 - £70,000 per annum (Band 8b equivalent).**

**Job Profile**
This influential post will report directory to the Director of Nursing and provide visible, inclusive and approachable leadership for the nursing staff across the inpatient surgical/medical service (circa 200 staff). You will have direct line management of Ward Managers & Clinical Nurse Specialists, inspiring and motivating the teams to have the skills, authority and autonomy they need to deliver outstanding person-centred care as well as continuously improve the patient safety and experience.
- **Job Type**: This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week.
- **Shift/Working Pattern**: Monday to Friday; 9am-5:30pm.
- **Job Location**: The London Clinic’s Main Hospital in London, W1G 6JA (Close to Regents Park & Baker Street tube stations).
- **Salary**: The attractive salary range for this role is £64,000 - £70,000 per annum, dependent on skills & experiences.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Provide effective leadership and line management to 7 Ward/Unit Managers and the 3 Surgical/Medical CNS teams, acting as a point of contact for advice and expertise on all matters relating to the surgical/medical pathways (Inpatient, pre-admission and day case) in collaboration with the Head of Quality (Nursing) and Director of Nursing.
- Provide expert clinical advice for staff and promote strong links between primary and secondary care services in order to effectively manage the needs of both patients and consultants.
- Lead and implement The London Clinic’s priorities and strategy for the surgical/medical nursing services, working in partnership with the Director of Nursing and Heads of Service, ensuring compliance to regulations, patient safety, patient satisfaction and continued business success
- Accountable for the overall financial performance of surgical/medical nursing services ensuring that associated financial resources are controlled and utilised effectively, leading on the cost efficiency work of bank/agency nursing staff whilst demonstrating value for money and high-quality patient care.
- Lead and focus on continuous quality improvement as well as ensuring that staffing levels meet patient needs; empowering nurses to take on a wider range of clinical tasks; ensuring that patients’ needs are met; improving wards for patients and resolving problems for patients and their relatives by building close therapeutic relationships with them.
**Skills & Experience**
- RGN with valid NMC registration with experience operating in an acute hospital nursing leadership role
- Strong evidence of people management, including experience of mentorship in practice, and Quality Improvement methodology knowledge.
- Experience of assessing training needs, as well as corporate and clinical governance issues, and national and local policies and how they impact on service provision.
- Significant experience of measuring and evaluating outcomes in order to secure improvement through continuous improvement as well as active involvement in quality improvement change processes from previous working environments / teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; active listening, negotiation, assertiveness, negotiation, decision making, social awareness with the ability to network in
