To assist in the smooth running of the EAB area and Talbot Butler ward. The ward Clerk will work in conjunction with nursing staff to provide administrative support throughout the patient’s journey within the department. The role involves daily face to face contact with patients and relatives whilst liaising with nursing and medical staff

The post holder will be expected to cross cover both EAB and Talbot Butler:

09:00 - 17:00

To have undertaken or have a willingness to undertake any courses relevant to the ward and EAB.

Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific development and competency programmes.

Undertake any expanded roles deemed necessary following the Trusts’ policy ‘Expansion of Professional Practice for Registered Healthcare Practitioners’.

Communicates proactively with all staff.

Professional Responsibilities

To be responsible for your own professional development, maintain a professional portfolio and keep up to date on current nursing and health service issues.

To take full responsibility for your own actions.

To be conversant with all Policies and procedures.

Identify learning needs in self, negotiating a Personal Development Plan recognising own limitations.

Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skill to manage infection prevention measures including the use of professional protective equipment.

Ensure all staff within the department adhere to infection prevention principles

Quality Assurance and Monitoring

Contribute to audit initiatives.

Policy and Service Development Responsibilities

Ensure all staff work within the confines of Trust policies, protocols and other relevant documentation, taking appropriate action where compliance is breached

The post holder may be required to carry out other relevant duties as required.

The post holder will be expected to work to any personal, Corporate, Divisional, Directorate and Departmental objectives and standards in order to provide an acceptable level of service.

The post holder will be expected to undertake training, including mandatory and role specific training, relevant to their role and ensure it is renewed as required.

Maintain good written and verbal communication between all departments and outside agencies.

Use the computerised patient management system (Camis) to access patient details, update information and make follow up appointments.

Be responsible for the ordering of stock and to ensure adequate levels are maintained.

Photocopy documents/notes as required. Locate, collate, file and store patient’s notes as appropriate.

Contribute to developing a welcoming atmosphere within the ward making users feel comfortable and at ease.

Deal appropriately with distressed patients and/or relatives with support from nursing staff.

Report any problems relevant to the ward to the senior nurse in charge.
