HMRC Communications Directorate plays a critical role within the Department in helping our customers to get their tax right and engaging our c.65,000 strong workforce. No other department touches the lives of so many people.

We are creative, fast-working and encourage collaboration. Our Directorate has a vital role in delivering HMRC’s brand and setting the direction and tone of communications in the department. We support delivery of business objectives through effective communications and engagement.

**Job description**:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced writer and editor to join HMRC’s new Integrated Campaigns Team. We work with teams across HMRC and across government to deliver impactful campaigns which help the department to: continue collecting the right tax each year; pay out vital support to citizens; and become a trusted, modern tax and customs authority.

**Person specification**:
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Providing expert advice on appropriate messages, tone of voice, editorial style and brand positioning.
- Generating distinct, multi-platform campaign copy in response to briefs, from social media content to snappy video scripts, to compelling internal messaging, and user-focused website content.
- Present finalised ideas and concepts, explaining clearly and confidently how the writing reflects the brief.
- Understanding HMRC’s Charter, strategic objectives and the Communications Directorate Strategy and Year Two Plan to deliver work that aligns to these objectives and commitments.
- Helping to deliver a tone of voice that is consistent with HMRC’s brand and rings true to our audiences, to drive trust in HMRC.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Excellent written English, including accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Strong track record of writing impactful campaign messages, copy editing and proofreading to deliver
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, allocating time effectively and communicating progress throughout.
- Understanding of how to adapt tone and style to a range of mediums, from social to print material, in line with departmental and accessibility guidelines.
- Experience working collaboratively across comms disciplines on a range of creative projects.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period.
