**Team Leader - Job Description and Person Specification**

**Reports to**:Registered manager

**Job purpose**

Team leaders will be the responsible person in the home when on duty and identified as the shift lead.

**Organisational relationships**

Team leaders will report to the registered manager. Team leaders will be supervised by the registered manager on a twice weekly basis within the probationary period, and monthly thereafter. Team leaders will receive an annual appraisal from the registered manager, and responsible individual/company director where necessary.

Team leaders will be responsible for ensuring that they plan shifts during handover with the RCW/RCW’s. They must ensure that the young people are effectively safeguarded and protected from harm at all times when on shift.

**Job description**

The home provides trauma informed care on a medium to long-term basis for children aged 5-12 on admission. Team leaders are responsible for supporting the registered manager at all times with the day to day running of the home, within the boundaries and expectations set out in the job description.

Team leaders are responsible when they are on shift for ensuring that staff are supporting the young people in a manner which is in line with the organisation’s ethos, and is trauma informed.

Team leaders will be supported by the registered manager through purposeful supervision to identify any shortfalls in practice and act upon these accordingly.

The team leader has access to on call management at all times as this is a 24/7 expectation for the homes registered manager, and the company director/responsible individual.
- Team leaders are responsible for the overall running of each shift in which they are identified as shift lead, a breakdown of their duties and responsibilities are listed below: _
- Personal_
- To work in line with the organisations ethos and in adherence to policies and procedures at all times.
- Team leaders must act in a professional manner in line with the code of conduct at all times when representing the organisation.
- Team leaders must positively role model in the home at all times.
- Team leaders will attend meetings in respect of the young people where applicable, in circumstances whereby they are unable to attend this must be communicated to the register manager for alternative arrangements to be made.
- Team leaders will engage in twice monthly supervisions whilst in the probation period, and monthly thereafter.
- Team leaders will attend twice monthly consultation with the homes psychological service provided, or at least one of the two each month.
- Team leaders will report any safeguarding concerns to the registered manager, or the on call manager if out of hours, in a timely manner.
- Team leaders must participate in mandatory training and be willing to engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
- Day to day tasks_
- To ensure that admin and paperwork tasks are completed to an appropriate standard during each shift, and provide support to team members where required.
- To ensure that the children’s routines are followed as set out in their care plans.
- To ensure that high quality care is provided at all times, which is consistent and in line with the children’s relevant plans.
- To ensure that if appointments are scheduled, clear plans are in place for these to be facilitated and supported by staff.
- To ensure that safeguarding matters are responded to in line with policy and procedure, advice can be sought from the on call manager where required. This is a 24/7 service.
- To ensure that the home is clean, tidy and in a presentable manner throughout the shift.
- To ensure that activities are planned and risk assessed in advance.
- To be responsible for monies on site out of hours, and ensure that petty cash is checked during handover at both the beginning and end of the shift.
- To ensure that any medication required to be administered to a child is done so in line with the prescription label and Medication Administration Record (MAR).
- To ensure before retiring on an evening, that all alarms are appropriately set in the home to meet safeguarding requirements.
- In regards to team dynamics_
- To participate in effective and productive handovers at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Ensure that they and their shift partners work in line with the organisations ethos and in adherence with policies and procedures at all times. If there are considered to be shortfalls in practice, these must be raised with the registered manager.
- To attend and participate in monthly staff team meetings, where apologies are requested, these must be raised with the registered manager who will determine whether they can be excused. Team leaders will not be expected to attend team meetings if they fall in a period of annual leave.
- In regards to the young people_
- To ensure that high quality care is provided to the children on a daily basis, including signposting them
