- Job description- Do you want to make a real difference in protecting the local environment? Pollution from farms is now one of the biggest issues facing our rivers. To help tackle this, we’re looking for applicants with expertise across the agricultural sector, whether that be within Intensive Farming, Biowaste, farm inspections or the regulatory sector.
Your experience and knowledge of agricultural regulation will enable you to mentor and develop our Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officers (ARIOs) who carry out farm inspections, whilst providing guidance on farm issues to our staff, and the wider agricultural community.
You will work with technical leads and Team Leaders to ensure the successful delivery of the inspection programme, whilst fostering an inclusive atmosphere that encourages the sharing of best practices, ensuring teams work cohesively towards the same goal. You will conduct a target number of agricultural farm visits yourself.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- You’ll join a small friendly team of Senior Environment Officers actively supporting the Team Leader with the leadership of Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officers.
Based in the Solent and South Downs Area (SSD) we have offices in Worthing, Chichester, Romsey and Pevensey.
We are an operational team that is integral to delivering real environmental improvements by visiting, advising and educating, whilst also regulating the farming sector.
- Experience/skills required- You will need experience of working within the agricultural sector and be able to demonstrate the following:

- The ability to plan work and prioritise resources
- Experience in coaching and mentoring others
- Previous successes delivering programmes of work
- An understanding and experience of tackling catchment scale pollution issues

You will need to be a self-starter, organised and motivated to achieve outcomes, with excellent communication skills and a strong team work ethic with an appetite to work collaboratively.
You must have:

- A full UK driving licence
- Competence in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, you will need to use an iPad and be able to input inspection findings into systems.
