We have an exciting opportunity for Expert by Experience Story Coordinator to join our Digital Team who are passionate about identifying, collecting and presenting interesting and engaging digital content via website, video, podcasts, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Lived experience sits at the core of Rethink Mental Illness’s work and is reflected in the content produced by the team.
The Digital Team is part of the wider Campaigns & Communications Team who are a team of campaigning and communications professionals who are also passionate about raising awareness for the charity’s amazing work in the mental illness space, campaigning for better treatment for people severely affected by mental illness and communicating the key messages of the charity.
**How you will make a difference**:
Among our many activities, and to help amplify their voice, Rethink Mental Illness provides a platform for people severely affected by mental illness and their carers to share their views and experiences (including to approximately three quarters of a million people across our social media channels). As the Expert by Experience Story Coordinator you will be responsible for putting in place processes for people to safely share their lived experience stories with relevant colleagues; supporting colleagues to capture the experiences and views of our service users and carers, and peer support group members - and co-produce narratives; working with our supporters more broadly to share their views and experiences across our communication channels and in the media; and to ensure that Experts by Experience who share their views and experiences are supported in the best possible way - ensuring they feel safe in the process and that individual needs are met.

What we are looking for
**We are looking for an individual who has**:
Experience of working sensitively with people with lived experience of mental (or physical) health issues, ideally in the charity sector.
Experience of storytelling - expert telling of the real experiences of people with lived experience.
Is an effective communicator in both oral and written English, write in succinct, structured way, and able to communicate sensitive issues clearly to non-specialist audiences.
Has excellent organisational and planning skills, able to work proactively and unsupervised, able to prioritise workload.
Ability to represent Rethink Mental Illness at all times, including at internal and external meetings and events including presenting to a range of audiences.
Ability to occasionally travel across England and work flexibly to meet the requirements of the job role (e.g. occasional evenings and days at weekends) e.g. or travel to meet people in services and groups/ support functions
**You may also have**:
Knowledge of the mental health / illness sector
Lived experience of mental illness
An understanding of confidential data collection, storage and GDPR
Knowledge of Umbraco content management system
Experience of working with databases or content management systems
Evidence of a commitment to learning and professional development
