Senior Heart Story Officer

London, United Kingdom British Heart Foundation Full time

The need for compelling stories of people affected by heart and circulatory diseases -including stroke, vascular dementia and their risk factors like diabetes - has never been greater

People who are willing to share their stories - our heart stories - have become central to the way we communicate; right across media and marketing campaigns, fundraising materials, events, policy work, and information and support.

**About the role**

As our Senior Heart Story Officer you’ll help to manage the work of the Heart Story Team and maintain the team's pivotal role in connecting people to our cause.

You’ll provide the best and most powerful stories to colleagues across the organisation and identify opportunities to enhance the BHF brand by harnessing the emotive power of real human stories.

An expert interviewer, able to sensitively draw out details of people's stories, you'll spot what makes a strong story for the BHF. With strong interpersonal skills you'll positively manage relationships with the people who volunteer to share their experiences. You’ll be skilled at managing a diverse workload of projects from fundraising, marketing, communications, policy, retail and medical.

Working with the team you'll assess and prioritise a fast-moving workload and develop excellent working relationships both with case studies and with the numerous colleagues who work with the heart story team to make a success of their projects.

**Working arrangements**

This is a 9 month fixed term contract.

This is a dual location role, with your working time split between your home and approximately once a fortnight in our London Office. This may increase, dependent on project meetings with the wider team.

We understand that you might need a little help balancing your work and home life. Many of our people work flexibly in different ways, from the hours or days they work, to their office or home location or a blend between the two. Please feel free to talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need; we’re happy to explore what’s possible for you and the role in helping to deliver our cause.

**About you**

With a strong understanding of what makes a good story, able to develop it to work in different media and on different platforms, you’ll have strong negotiation skills and the ability to persuade people at all levels.

You’ll have proven experience of interviewing, including interviewing vulnerable people or those in challenging or sensitive situations and will have previous experience of supporting marcomms campaigns and projects with strong human stories.

With a track record of working on multiple projects and successfully prioritising you’ll be a people person, able to develop strong relationships with those around you. Additionally, you'll be sensitive to others and emotionally astute.

**About us**

Everything we do comes back to funding life-saving research into all heart and circulatory conditions including heart failure, stroke, and vascular dementia. Every hour of research we’ve ever funded, every item we’ve ever sold, every campaign we’ve ever run, all the support we’ve ever given. The donations we receive are used to make people’s lives healthier and longer.

We celebrate diversity and make inclusion part of what we do every day. It sits at the heart of our People Experience. Our aim is for all of our colleagues and volunteers to bring their true self to work.

**What can we offer you**

We offer excellent benefits including generous annual leave, private medical insurance, dental health cover, pension, and flexible working.

We’re committed to actively developing you and offer learning and development opportunities to support, inspire and help you unlock your full potential.

To find out more about benefits available at the BHF please download our benefits document on our website.

**Interview process**

Interviews will be held virtually via MS Teams.
