Midlands Connect has a brand-new role for a Project Support Officer on a fixed term basis, for 12 months. They are seeking an enthusiastic individual to provide essential support to programme managers and leads on delivering transformative transport projects that involve new technologies, alternative fuels for road and rail, network resilience and rail business cases.
You will play a crucial role in overseeing project progress and assisting project leads in ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality project delivery. As an integral member of the team, you'll engage collaboratively across the organisation, providing comprehensive support for a variety of innovative projects that are in the early stage of development. Midlands Connect are focused on creating a fairer, greener and stronger region and are committed to improving the livelihood of the community. They need someone who has strong attention to detail, is highly proactive and understands the importance of being a team player.
This is a great opportunity for the right person to enhance their project management skills and expand their transport knowledge as on the job training will be provided.
**What will you be doing?**
- Ensure that project management best practice is identified and utilised throughout the Project Delivery process.
- Support in the management of procurement activities such as developing tender specifications.
- Managing consultants work on a day-to-day basis.
- Review consultant technical reports to ensure they are of the required quality.
- Support in the identification and management of risks and issues on projects.
- Support the Programme Leads / Managers with stakeholder and partner engagement on the project.
- Undertake project-specific technical work.
**About you.**
- An understanding of Project management methodologies
- Experience in transport planning or project management
- Aptitude to be able to deal with complex problems.
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent Interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Microsoft proficient

Hybrid working means having flexibility between working in the office and at home on agreed days, where a role allows. This is agreed between an employee and their line manager, considering the business, team, and employee needs.
The location for this role is Alpha Tower, Suffolk Street Queensway, Birmingham, B1 1TT. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days spent in the office.
