**BRIEF OVERVIEW**
An exciting opportunity for a Supervisor for our Ocean Import team at our DSV Mercia Park location, Swadlincote has arisen.
The Ocean Import Supervisor has a very varied role and requires someone who is extremely well organised and familiar with how a business operates.
Working as an Ocean Import supervisor also requires someone with an outgoing personality and capable of negotiating with external agencies and maintaining business relationship.
**KEY TASKS**:
- You will be responsible for managing department budgets and may also be involved in setting targets in association with other senior managers.
- The Import supervisor is expected to prepare reports on the performance of your department and suggest improvements that will enhance the company’s profit margins, as well as work closely with other senior department heads for the benefit of the company.
- Maintain records for accounting purposes in accordance with company procedures, including the checking of all invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to tariff and Customs regulations.
- Negotiate with carriers, warehouse operators or distribution networks to determine tariffs which should be in the interests of the company at all times.
- Develop and maintain business relationships with both customers and suppliers.
- Providing hands on support to our Ocean Imports Team Offer advice and share industry knowledge, assist with staff training and development, acting as a mentor and positive role model, leading by example at all times.
- Deal with a variety of commodities for all shipments.
- Be able to handle the whole life cycle of the shipment from clearance to delivery to the customer.
- Complete day to day customs clearance and entries for all ocean and some air freight shipments.
- Arrange delivery onward to the client Deal with all queries quickly and efficiently.
- Liaise with overseas agents and hauliers.
- Build good working relationships with both customers and colleagues.
- Arrange shipments for FCL & LCL.
**ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- You will need to have at least 2 years’ experience in freight forwarding.
- Experience leading a small team preferred.
- Experience using Cargowise systems
- Experience of inputting into CHIEF
- Excellent problem solving, planning & organising skills.
- Excellent communication/telephone skills. Strong administrative and customer service skills.
- Ability to work under pressure using own initiative.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Word
