Current pupils are making outstanding progress’._ Harris Academy Morden is located favourably for public transport with good local access to bus, tram and train links to mainline rail and the underground network **Main Areas of Responsibility** Manage Referrals The deputy designated safeguarding lead is expected to support the DSL in referring cases: - of suspected abuse and neglect to the local authority children’s social care as required and support staff who make referrals to local authority children’s social care; - to the Channel programme where there is a radicalisation concern as required and support staff who make referrals to the Channel programme; - where a person is dismissed or left due to risk/harm to a child to the Disclosure and Barring Service as required; and - where a crime may have been committed to the Police as required. Working with others The deputy designated safeguarding lead is expected to support the DSL in the following areas: - act as a source of support, advice and expertise for all staff; - act as a point of contact with the safeguarding partners; - liaise with the headteacher or principal to inform him or her of issues - as required, liaise with the "case manager" and the local authority designated officer(s) (LADO) for child protection concerns in cases which concern a staff member; - liaise with staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and welfare and when deciding whether to make a referral; - liaise with the senior mental health lead and, where available, the Mental Health Support Team, where safeguarding concerns are linked to mental health; - promote supportive engagement with parents and/or carers; - work with the headteacher and relevant strategic leads, taking responsibility for promoting educational outcomes by knowing the welfare, safeguarding and child protection issues that children in need are experiencing Information sharing and managing the child protection file The deputy designated safeguarding lead is responsible for supporting the DSL in ensuring that child protection files are kept up to date. Please view the Job Pack for a full list of responsibilities relating to this role. **Qualifications & Experience** - Educated to A Level - Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages. - Proficient in the use of computers and databases. - Detailed knowledge and experience of good safeguarding practice - Good ICT skills and ability to write concise summary reports regarding safeguarding issues - Experience of supporting children and young people with a variety of needs. - Experience of working in a dynamic working environment where adaptability and flexibility are key features. - Experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships and liaison with outside agencies and families, focussing at all times on the welfare of the child **Next Steps** **Professional Development & Benefits** Our people are at the heart of our success.
