Specialist Deaf Outreach Worker

Are you interested in being part of a bilingual (BSL/English) and bicultural York outreach team? This team will offer specialist assessments, compile reports, and provide feedback to young deaf people, their families, and referrers and, where possible, offer sign posting to services to support the recommendations / suggested therapeutic intervention(s).
**This role focuses on a pilot service**: The 18-25 Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service (18-25 DMHAS), targeting young deaf adults within the Yorkshire & Humber area. The 24-month pilot aims to assess demand, address service gaps, and inform future commissioning.
This service will work within the established National Deaf CAMHS (Northern Arm) serves the North of England with outreach teams in York, Newcastle, and Manchester.

**Team**:
Part of the bilingual (BSL/English) and bicultural York outreach team, the Specialist Deaf Outreach Worker (SDOW) collaborates with professionals in the 18-25 Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service (DMHAS), a Team Secretary, a Clinical Psychologist, a Clinical Team Interpreter and a Specialist Practitioner. Support and co-ordination of this service will be provided by the Clinical Team Manager, a Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist, a Deaf Service Consultant, a Clinical Lead, the Operational Manager and the Head of Operations Manager.
**Role**:
As a Specialist Deaf Outreach Worker in the 18-25 DMHAS, the focus is on effective communication and enhancing care for young deaf adults and families. This involves aligning the team's cultural background with that of patients, requiring deep understanding of deaf individuals’ nuances.
**Responsibilities**:
The role involves communication / relationship skills, knowledge / training / experience, analysis/problem-solving / judgmental skills, and planning / organisational skills. Tasks include assessments, safeguarding, trauma-informed approach implementation, and providing specialist knowledge. The worker contributes to accessibility, offers expertise in BSL and deaf culture, attends training, and travels for appointments.
