**Principal Designer**:
Due to the growth within the business, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Designer to be based within one of the following hub offices - Leeds, London, Cambridge Central or Oxford. This is a new and varied role which will enable someone who is proactive and knowledgeable within commercial property sector to help strengthen Carter Jonas’ profile within the market and the building consultancy service.

As the Principal Designer within the building consultancy team, you will be responsible for ensuring that highest levels of health and safety management are an integral part of the pre-construction phase of all projects. The post holder will work closely with other duty-holders to plan, manage and monitor health and safety; identify any information gaps and foreseeable-risks to evaluate against the general principles of prevention. The role will involve working with existing and new internal and external clients to support the development of the team’s service line which sits alongside existing streams delivering architecture and building surveying services

**MAIN TASKS**:

- Ensure the client is aware of their obligations as a duty-holder under CDM, 2015
- Inform the client of other duty-holders’ obligations under CDM, 2015
- Assist the client in the provision of the pre-construction information
- Plan, manage and monitor construction health and safety during the pre-construction phase
- Coordinate matters relating to health and safety, as design proceeds
- Take account of health and safety matters when design, technical and organisational aspects are being decided
- Consider health and safety when planning the various items or stages of work and estimating the time required to complete work or stages
- Consider the contents of any construction phase plan or health and safety file
- Ensure so far as is reasonably practicable the elimination or control of foreseeable hazards of significant risk to those involved, affected or have access to the construction work, future users, and maintenance workers.
- Ensure designers understand their obligations under CDM duties
- Ensure that everyone working on the pre-construction phase cooperates with each other
- Provide pre-construction information to every designer and contractor appointed, or being considered
