We are looking for an exceptional Head of Service reporting to the Director of Sustainable Communities
This is an exciting time to be working in Croydon. As we emerge from the impacts of the pandemic, we face an unprecedented challenge in shaping the recovery and sustainable growth of our borough. Croydon Council is also building back from declaring a S114 notice last year, and we are having to work innovatively, build partnerships and strengthen ties with local communities, businesses, and wider society, working towards a more sustainable and inclusive future for the whole borough.
You will be a visionary and transformational leader with outstanding communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively to drive service change and develop partnerships. You will bring demonstrable experience of waste management and track record of developing impactful, sustained partnerships to deliver and effective and efficient environmental services.
You will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic professional with strong leadership skills and a keen interest in the Environment. You will need an Environmental related degree, membership of the Chartered Institution of Waste Management, and sound knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act and all current environmental legislation and government strategies.
This post holder is required to lead a small but very busy Environmental Services team responsible for the delivery of key environmental front line contracts in the borough. You will need sound knowledge and experience of procuring and delivering excellent services within a local authority responsible for environmental contracts in partnership with various commercial providers.
You will be the Croydon’s Technical Lead Officer for the South London Waste Partnership (SLWP), a 4 Borough Partnership encompassing waste collection and disposal contracts across Croydon, Kingston, Merton, and Sutton. You will therefore need to have experience of managing contracts and implementing waste related projects, be capable of providing guidance and support in all environmental matters and be competent in finance management with a budget of £35m.
Full-time hours, 36 per week
