We are seeking to appoint some fantastic Residential Childcare Officers at our wonderful partnering residential special school in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. The Academy is a school for boys aged range 7 - 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.
During this role, you will be supporting pupils in class similarly to a Teaching Assistant, as well as supporting them on the residential side of the school. This will involve you supporting the pupil's progress. This role will also require you to commit to35 hours per week including one or two sleep ins per week on the residential side of the school.
You must be reliable, patient and persistent, as well as having a loyal and kind nature towards the pupils.
**Sleep in Allowance:**:

- 1 x sleep-in per week during term time = £1344 per annum.
- 2 x sleep-ins per week during term time = £2688 per annum.
- Term time plus 1 week.
- Temp to perm, long term.
- 35 hours per week.

**Residential Childcare Officer specific responsibilities:**:

- Taking part in the admission process for the child and providing an initial and ongoing contact point for the family at the Academy for routine problems that may arise.
- In discussion and liaison with the Head of Care to maintain contact with the family on a regular basis and to be involved in any work with the family that may be deemed appropriate.
- To keep casework records up to date on the child and family.
- Attending and participating in, making recommendations and preparing reports for, the child’s regular and statutory review meetings, case conferences, Childcare Officer/Teacher Tutor liaison meetings and parents’ evenings.
- All staff at this level must hold an NVQ2 or be willing to work towards this qualification.
- Must work towards the BTEC Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent.

**Residential Childcare Officer other responsibilities:**:

- Provide support to Primary/Secondary aged learners within an SEN School/Alternative Provision.
- The implementation of an agreed pattern of sensitive, but effective, care and control to provide the children with a secure, safe and stimulating environment conducive to physical, emotional, educational and social development, so that pupils enjoy a calmand relaxed group living experience.
- To be responsible for the training and counselling of pupils in personal and social competence, including: relationships, health, hygiene, domestic etiquette, dress and safety.
- To be responsible for the safety of children by exercising adequate control and supervision.
- Passionate about supporting young people with complex and communication needs.
- Passionate about working with young people with Autism.
- Be able to manage behaviour in the correct manner.
- Participate fully in the daily observation and recording of pupils’ behaviour and progress in the appropriate manner.
- To “sleep-in” as per rota. When asked by the Deputy Heads of Care to cover the absence of a colleague who is unable to do this duty.This is on a temporary basis during the year.
- To liaise with the Academy Support Manager with regard to all domestic arrangements affecting pupils where required by the Deputy Heads of Care.
- Work in partnership with, peers, parents, carers to ensure the best possible platform is given.
- To be actively involved in the Academy’s recreational and social programme and engage individuals and groups of pupils in constructive, enterprising and a socially extending range of leisure pursuits. To have specific responsibility for the involvementof pupils in the residence in such activities.
- To work alongside the Deputy Heads of Care by engaging in the Academy day supporting pupils’ social and emotional development in lessons. This will entail working with those students who find it difficult to maintain their place in the classroom due totheir level of disturbance.Where necessary this may involve removal of the student from the lesson and working on a one to one basis with that particular student until he is able to retake his place in the classroom.

- Eagerness to work in SEND. Passion for supporting young people or adults with SEND.
- Friendly and have the needed attributes to engage with learners within the settings.
- Hold an NVQ3 within childcare or be willing to work towards this qualification with the school.
- Willing to work towards the BTEC Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent.
