**Job purpose**:
As a Horticulture & Estates Operative, you will undertake maintenance and cleaning activities across specific areas with reference to the Landscape and Habitat Management Plan, under instruction from the site Horticultural & Estate Manager & Supervisor.

As an operative you should therefore be equipped to use the appropriate machinery to complete the required task. You are also required to provide feedback to managers about progress on site, in order to maintain a successful management team. Finally you take pride in seeing things run smoothly and efficiently.

**What will you be doing**:

- Maintaining the estates amenity, parkland, sportsground and woodland areas to the highest of horticultural standards. Lawn mowing, pruning, leaf collection, weeding etc.
- Monitoring building entrances for a high level of cleanliness.
- Landscaping, tree, shrub and bulb planting.
- Biodiversity work such as wildflower seeding, reed bed creation and pond reclamation.
- Identify & use appropriate control of non-native invasive species and native injurious plant species within the estate.
- Winter gritting and snow clearance - to help maintain safe access to site in winter months.
- Pressure washing of all areas of site, as required to maintain a good level of cleanliness.
- Spraying and accurate records of all pesticide use.
- Assisting with the Forestry Commission approved Woodland Management programme and sites Landscape and Habitat Management Plan.
- Helping to maintain the estate in a litter free state.
- Seasonal cleaning of the sites multi storey car parks and stairwells
- To communicate effectively and politely throughout the team, forming afficient, healthy working relationships.

**What we’re looking for**:

- As a perfectionist with high expectations and standards, you will deliver practical results, with a bias to action and extraordinary attention to detail.
- 2 plus year experience in horticulture would be preferred, with experience and competence in the use of lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters and leaf blowers.
- Able to think on your feet and bring creative and innovative solutions to the table.
- Commercial drivers licence needed with experience in using heavy equipment and machinery such as tractors (and related machinery) and ride on lawn mowers.
- Somebody who works well as part of a settled team, but who is also motivated to work on their own when required.
