Chief Operating Officer
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust employs over 7,000 dedicated staff from a range of different cultures, nations and backgrounds to care for 525,000 people in East Sussex and beyond. Rated as Good by the Care Quality Commission, we now have a rare and pivotal opportunity to join our Trust Board as Chief Operating Officer. This is a critical role across a large integrated acute and community trust with an ambition to become an Outstanding rated provider of care. As COO, you will ensure we deliver our vision ‘to combine community and hospital services to provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality care to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of East Sussex”. You will lead and work closely with the Clinical Chiefs of Divisions and be passionate about driving clinical engagement. As a part of the national programme to redevelop hospitals, we are looking to make significant investments in and changes to our estate in the coming years and you will also have the opportunity to use this opportunity to innovate around our ways of working and models of care.
As our Chief Operating Officer, you will lead on the strategic alignment across the Trust’s spectrum of services, based around our new strategy. We are searching for a leader with a demonstrable track record of accomplishment in a senior operational leadership role, perhaps either already as a Board Director COO or in a sub-board role in a larger more complex provider. While it is most likely that you have deep acute experience, we also welcome expressions of interest from those offering transferable skills, particularly from those who have delivered transformation and improvement in an executive role, from wider areas of provision that map onto our services.
Most critically, we require an energetic, ambitious, and creative leader with a commitment to equity, inclusion and values based leadership. Someone who can think differently and help us to further transform the way we deliver care for the communities and health and care systems we are part of.
We recognise that if our new Chief Operating Officer is going to achieve genuine and lasting change, they will require outstanding communication, networking and influencing skills, with a commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, that enables new and innovative ways of working to be embedded across our clinical teams and externally into the Integrated Care Board. Providing inclusive leadership to our operational teams and more widely across the Trust, you will be a dynamic and entrepreneurial individual who can foster a culture of high performance and compassionate care across all of our services whilst putting safety, quality, and outcomes at the heart of everything we do.
We are proud of the achievements of our teams over the pandemic, of our performance improvements and of the culture we have developed. However, we are looking to the future with ambition and confidence and recognise there is still much to do. If you are enthusiastic and passionate about the potential of joining our Trust and believe that your skills and experiences equip you to make a difference to our patients and staff.
We encourage you to speak with Frank McKenna, Managing Director or Thomas Patterson, Director on +44(0)7970 339 151, at Alumni Global who are supporting the Trust on this critical appointment.
CV's and cover letters should be submitted directly to Alumni Global.
