Deputy Chief Operating Officer
This is a newly created role at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) which provides acute hospital and community health services, safely, compassionately, and with a high quality of care to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of East Sussex. The trust has an annual turnover of £380 million and employs 6,000 members of staff, whilst serving 525,000 people, making it one of the largest healthcare organisations in the country.
The Deputy Chief Operating Officer - Urgent Care and Flow will play a key role as a both an internal strategic and wider system leader across the elective pathway and will work with colleagues across commissioning and PCNs to deliver clinically effective care and sustainable services. On behalf of the Chief Operating Officer, you will take the lead for specific programmes of work to build sustainability in operational delivery, this will include supporting the clinical divisions in the leadership of the elective pathways to deliver transformation and efficiency across elective services.
You will work closely with the trust lead for financial improvement and productivity to ensure that the programmes and strategies developed are fit for purpose and support our Trust vision and objectives, liaising with CCGs on action plans and progress where plans span the local health and social care system. The post holder will be responsible for a budget of £20 million and will take the lead on capital development schemes, with the Corporate Cancer Team, Outpatient and clinical administrative teams, and the Associate Director of Patient Services, all being directly answerable to the post.
We have been on a journey of significant improvement and we are proud of the progress we have made. During their last inspection in 2018, CQC recognised the dedication and commitment of our talented and professional workforce. Rated Outstanding for Caring and Good for Well Led, staff were recognised for “going the extra mile” and treating patients with compassion, dignity and respect; and there was praise for the unanimous commitment to maintaining and improving the quality and safety of patient care. Furthermore, our commitment to tackling financial challenges was demonstrated earlier this year as the Trust was removed from Financial Special Measures. We have little doubt that our financial progress is a direct result of the improvements we have made to the efficiency and effectiveness of the care we provide and the work we do in all parts of the organisation.
