We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.
Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to influence the development of options for changes to airspace in support and delivery of airspace modernisation? The basic structure of the UK’s airspace was developed over forty years ago and the CAA is looking for a highly skilled expert with an in-depth understanding of aviation and air traffic operations, to join the rapidly expanding Airspace Regulation (AR) team during this exciting time as the UK looks to enable the delivery for modernisation in line with UK Government directions and international policies.
The strategy aims to create an aviation infrastructure for the future to make quicker, quieter, and cleaner journeys and more capacity for those using and affected by UK airspace. If you have the technical expertise and are excited by the idea of being involved in an opportunity like this, then the CAA wants to hear from you. The UK Government announced in January 2025 that is supported proposals to be put forward for a third runway at Heathrow. This role provides the opportunity to be at the forefront of evolving airspace change proposals in the UK within a diverse technical team making key decisions. Your expertise can play a key role in helping re-design and develop the UK’s aging airspace.
Given the necessary airspace change developments needed to deliver the Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS) this role will encompass both regulatory oversight of airspace change proposal, and the strategic development of airspace change processes necessary to deliver the AMS.
**The Role**
Assist in modernising UK airspace to create a more efficient structure which takes account of the latest development in innovation and technology, placing integration of all airspace users as a priority.
Review and scrutinise proposals from a wide range of sponsors such as Air Navigation Service Providers, the military, and general aviation, producing objective and independent assessments of the direct and consequential airspace impacts for each proposed airspace change design.
Provide support to Principal Airspace Regulator (Co-ordination and delivery) in the tracking and development of work to be undertaken relating to the airspace change process in conjunction with the CAA UKADS.
**About You**
Ideally, you’ll have significant experience within an Air Traffic Management environment and/or the UK aviation industry however equivalent experience and transferrable skills will be considered.
An excellent understanding of UK airspace, air traffic operations, aircraft performance and developments in the aviation industry.
The ability to develop strong, constructive relationships with contacts throughout the CAA and externally, thereby providing efficient and effective delivery and customer service
Be highly motivated with the ability to be receptive to change and a willingness to embrace new working methods to enable delivery at pace.
Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully, diplomatically, and authoritatively with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to deliver clear, concise, and effective guidance, and unbiased conclusions.
**Additional Information**
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
To be vetted you must have the right to work in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.

We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers.
We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office, before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and
