Colorectal Cancer STT CNS, Band 7

We are looking for an experienced Nurse who is committed to delivering excellent patient care and who takes pride in what they do and will work within the cancer nursing team to improve and enhance the colorectal cancer patient journey. As an experienced nurse you will work alongside nursing and medical colleagues in surgery and oncology to facilitate the best experience and care for individuals with suspect and confirmed diagnosis' of colorectal cancer.
A background in colorectal nursing/ Cancer / Oncology would be advantageous to the applicant. Excellent communication skills are essential, an ability to prioritise workload, whilst working as part of a team is also essential.
The post holder is expected to develop this role in accordance with the framework for Nurses in Specialist Practice as identified by Hamric, Spross & Hanson and the Trust’s Competency Framework for Specialist and Advanced Practice Roles.
The requirements of this post will have more focus on the diagnostic part of the cancer pathway. The nursing workload will be share across the CNS team.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) functions within a field of practice that focuses on the needs of the patient and encompasses interaction with others in delivering nursing, health and social care.
The CNS promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource and commitment to nursing research. The post holder will work closely with the Urology CNS team across the patient pathway.
The post holder will contribute to the on-going role in the development of the service for patients with suspected or confirmed colorectal cancers. This will include developing protocols; setting up; and running a nurse led clinics (face to face/Virtual/telephone) for assessment and follow up care. The post holder will be the key professional involved in leading the triage assessment service which includes vetting referrals, telephone assessments and requesting appropriate investigations on this assessment.
The post holder will also participate in the education of all disciplines of staff working with this patient group and act as an expert resource to other professionals involved in the care of these patients. They will work to ensure that cancer specific guidelines are adhered to and Department of Health standards are maintained.

Expert Clinical Practice/Leadership
To provide expert nursing advice to patients with suspected colorectal GI malignancies over the phone or face to face where necessary.
To demonstrate specialist skills and knowledge through expert nursing practice.
To liaise with all relevant members of the multidisciplinary team in the care and support of individual patients including GPs.
To maintain a high profile in the clinical area, acting as a role model for other health care professionals.
To facilitate individualised patient care based upon the principles of evidence based practice.
To act as a liaison nurse between investigations until patient is diagnosed with cancer or referred back to GP.
To hold a nurse led clinic, including the development of written protocols based on national standards, triaging or following up suspected colorectal cancer patients, arranging investigations, reviewing results, diagnosing and referring back to a medical team as appropriate.
To refer patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer for on-going support.
