The NHS Long Term Plan confirms the essential need for and value of the Learning Disability and Autism Key Worker Programme. The programme will reduce the numbers of children and young people who are autistic, have a learning disability or both who are either in a specialist hospital bed or at risk of being admitted. Keyworkers will work closely with these children and young people, and their families, via the Dynamic Support Register, to get the right support at the right time. The focus will be on building trust and developing strong networks, partnerships and relationships with the multiple services, agencies and organisations involved in their care. This joined up approach will reduce hospital admissions and most importantly ensure these children and young people, and their families, can live happier, healthier, longer lives.
