- Denmark Hill Site is delighted to offer a very exciting opportunity for a midwifery leader to join our maternity services within a six-month secondment as a Flow matron.

Within King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust we have been fortunate enough to develop a new team within both of our maternity sites focusing on unit flow and patient safety. This role is a matron's position to lead this team on the Denmark Hill site, in developing this role and team to lead with innovation, passion and safety.

We are looking for an autonomous, motivated and enthusiastic midwifery leader to join our amazing team. We are looking for a midwife with excellent communication and decision-making skills, experience in clinical care and a dynamic approach to leadership and patient safety.

You will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of care and safety for women, pregnant people and families.

We offer post-registration education and development that enables our midwives to become confident practitioners and leaders within maternity services.

The department flow and safety matron will assume the role of departmental site manager across inpatient and community maternity departments. Working closely with the area matrons to manage the flow across all areas, support safety, maternity staff and resources within the department areas to provide high standards of safe, quality and cost-effective clinical care.
The post holder will provide leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of the daily activity and throughput within the maternity unit. This will result in high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay and responsiveness to individualised needs, thus increasing client satisfaction.
The post holder will ensure all patient safety and risk concerns across the department are identified in a timely manner, leading on rapid reviews where required. The post holder will ensure investigations are appropriately allocated, investigated and acted upon by trained and
objective staff to improve patient/staff safety and ensure good governance. They will ensure that where lessons are learnt around patient safety issues, actions are implemented and that they are periodically evaluated for effectiveness. They will also support local monitoring
systems to ensure compliance with national standards (including CQC).

- Have an overview of all staff within the maternity services. Lead on morning and afternoon staff huddles, using team feedback to manage the workload across the department
- Escalate any concerns according to the escalation policy
- Proactively address and defuse complaints. Liaise with ward managers and Matrons as deemed necessary for complaints within their designated areas.
- Lead of ATAIN and further areas of patient safety improvement portfolios
- Lead on investigations as directed by senior management team and support staff in report writing as required.
- Develop and maintain a planned systematic and problem solving approach to individualised care.
- Attend all relevant flow, staffing and acuity meetings. Carry the Wi-Fi phone for the maternity department, ensuring effective communication

between departments, bed and site team and overseeing the timely discharge, transfer or escalation of women and birthing people.
- Respond appropriately to ensure all shifts are covered following period of unplanned staff absence. Maintain database of staff absences and reason for absence. Update changes on E-roster.
