**Job description**:
**International Group**

The International Group advises ministers on promoting and protecting the UK’s international economic interests, to ensure the UK thrives in an ever-changing global economy. We do this through our policy and operational work on a range of areas ranging from free trade agreements, climate change, countering illicit finance, financial sanctions to supporting developing countries and managing our relationship with Europe, US, and emerging markets.

We support the Chancellor and senior officials in building relationships with a wide range of external and international partners and represent the UK in a range of international organisations, such as the G7, the G20 and the International Monetary Fund as well as Multilateral Development Banks. We also analyse what is happening in the world economy, and control spending on international development. Although international travel is an important part of some roles, it is not required for every role in the group and will be specified if required.

**Global Issues and Governance Team**

The Global Issues and Governance team (GIG) sits within IG, and works to promote and protect HMT's interests internationally. In particular we address climate, health and other key global economic challenges through major multilateral economic fora, working closely with the Bank of England in the G7 and G20. We achieve this mission by working with teams across HMT, HMG and with our international counterparts, driving forward the UK’s policy interests through multilateral fora by providing high-quality briefing and advice to ministers and officials. We foster a ‘one team’ approach; we are supportive, collaborative and considerate to other people’s priorities championing flexible working. We are open to new ideas and challenges, with diversity and inclusion an important priority, alongside challenging bullying and harassment where we see it. In addition, we are a fun team to be a part of, where we encourage social activities and having a suitable work-life balance is key. Our team is spilt into two distinct units, and this role sits in the Multilateral Unit:

- The **Global Issues Unit** is split into two branches: Global Heath financing and International Climate and Environment branch covering climate change and environmental policy.
- The **Multilateral Unit** leads HMT’s policy and engagement on the finance tracks of the G20 and G7, as well as HMT’s engagement with the OECD and Commonwealth.

**Key Accountabilities**

The role will be a policy advisor in the G7 branch, which sits within the Multilateral Unit alongside the G20 branch. We work together with different teams from across the department and government
