The post-holder will become an integral part of the acute department at University Hospital of Wales. He/she will be given training in Acute and general medicine, including work within the AU.

The post is available as soon as possible and is for 12 months.

He/she will have responsibility for ward inpatients and, as such, will be expected to attend board rounds, ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.

He/she will help supervise the ward juniors, help manage the inpatients as well as providing support for seriously ill patients and help coordinate their discharge planning.

The post holder will have a designated educational and clinical supervisor whom they will meet on a regular basis. Annual leave entitlement is 27 days per annum. Study leave and access to study leave expenses will be negotiable.

The Clinical fellows will be required to perform clinical work on AU and acute ward. both as the first doctor to see patients with the range of problems which present to a busy emergency department, and supervising the work of more junior staff

The appointee will work closely with the admitting general medical and the multidisciplinary team

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical students and junior doctors.

The appointee will be expected to undertake audit, and be encouraged to take on clinical research projects depending on the interests of the successful applicant(s).

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board was established in October 2009 and is one of the largest NHS organisations in the UK. We have a responsibility for the promotion of health and well-being of around 475,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, the provision of local primary care services, running of health centres, community health teams, hospitals - providing treatment and care when health and well-being isn’t the best it could be.

We are increasingly focusing the planning and delivery of our care based on neighbourhoods and localities to help ensure people receive care as close to home as possible where it is safe and effective to do so. We also provide specialist services for people across South Wales and in some cases the whole of Wales.

The Health Board also serves a wider population of 2.5 million people across South and Mid Wales and manages a number of services of a regional and sub-regional nature namely cardiology, cardiac surgery, PICU, neurology, neurosurgery, medical genetics, bone marrow transplantation, renal transplant and toxicology. On-site services include 24/7 PCI, stroke thrombolysis, ophthalmology, maxillo-facial, trauma, general medicine, general surgery, urology and paediatrics. From September 2020, University Hospital of Wales is designated as the first Major Trauma Centre to launch in Wales.

The post-holders will be an integral part of the clinical team and will carry out the following

**duties**:
Reception, examination, diagnosis, resuscitation, treatment and management of patients until appropriate transfer to inpatient facility
or discharge home.
Supervision of more junior medical staff in the Department.
Participation in delivering teaching to undergraduate students attached to the Department.
Attendance at departmental meetings as appropriate.
