Overview Cardiff Eye Unit provides a comprehensive ophthalmic service for South Glamorgan (population circa 600,000) and also for the Lower Rhymney Valley in mid Glamorgan (population circa 107,000). The Department also has contracts with purchasing authorities in most of the other parts of South Wales. The demand for services is increasing and the department is expanding to meet this need. Equipment The Unit is fully equipped with all the facilities to be expected in a modern ophthalmic unit including Argon and SLT/YAG and Diode lasers, B‑scan, Humphrey Visual Field Machine, OCT, Optos retinal imaging, IOL Master 700 and Pentacam. Clinical Fellow in Glaucoma The advertised post is Clinical Fellow in Glaucoma. The successful candidate will participate in 4 Glaucoma clinics and 4 theatre sessions. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be participating in 4 clinic sessions, 4 operating theatre sessions, and 1 administrative/research/post‑grad session per week. A high degree of proficiency will be expected in general ophthalmology, phacoemulsification and a basic grounding in the sub‑specialty concerned. The Clinical Fellow posts will be work cross‑site at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and the University Hospital of Llandough (UHL), and at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. This is part of an existing networking arrangement between the UHB's. The post was introduced to broaden the subspecialty service at both units and to provide sub‑specialist training to a high level and facilitate high quality research. You will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department in the respective ULHB's.
