The Intestinal Failure (IF): Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) inpatient service is hosted on ward A7 at the University Hospital of Wales with clinical oversight from a consultant gastroenterologist. The post is designed to provide experience in an Integrated Severe Intestinal Failure. This aims to provide the trainee with an interest in advanced nutrition, the skills to take the lead role in nutritional support, but also care for patients in an IF/HPN unit, under senior educational supervision. Main duties of the job Your main duties will be to manage patients under Gastroenterology and the Intestinal Failure tertiary service on ward A7 and other outlying acute ward areas. You will be able to attend MDTs relevant to providing multi-disciplinary care for the inpatients. The post holder will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. They will need to agree levels of activity and throughput with the Clinical Lead and undertake annual appraisal and job planning as per UHB Policy. The post holder will be required to adhere to UHB Policy on maintaining Medical excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping knowledge and skills up to date. Inpatient ward duties and ward rounds, to include review of and acting upon investigation results. Helping ensure patient admissions run smoothly, efficiently and effectively by encouraging multi-disciplinary team working. Person Specification Qualifications Full Registration and Full Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions) European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology (ESGE) Experience Completion of Foundation Competencies Minimum of 18 months basic medical training. Minimum of 12 months NHS service To be eligible for appointment at the Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5) level within this role you are required to have completed a minimum of two years Specialty Registrar or equivalent training in the UK or equivalent (CT1-2 or IMT1-3) Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures. Assessment of emergencies Experience of Gastroenterology, Clinical Nutrition or Transplant at middle grade level. To be eligible for appointment at the ST6+ level within this role you are required to have completed Specialty Registrar or equivalent training to ST6 level passing the associated competencies To be eligible for appointment at the Senior level within this role you are required to have completed Specialty Registrar training in the UK or equivalent with CCT Skills, Knowledge & Ability Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working Counselling and communication skills Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance Up to date with current practices in Respiratory Medicine Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from seniors as appropriate Audit Research interests relevant to specialty Teaching Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues Evidence of ability to work both in a team and alone Flexible approach Motivated and efficient Commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary team Show interest in investigative, audit and research work outside immediate clinical responsibility.
