**Introduction**:
- The Economist_ is a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs, published daily through our apps and websites, and weekly in print and digital editions. We deliver our information through a range of formats, from newspapers and magazines to conferences, films and audio.
We are looking for a Strategy Associate to join us. You will be reporting to the Strategy Manager and be responsible for building a new Market Intelligence function. In addition, you will support the Strategy and Business Growth team helping in the identification, analysis, strategic development, and ownership of new growth areas.
**Accountabilities**:**Overview**
As the foundation of the Market Intelligence function, you will be the internal expert to senior stakeholders across the business. In addition, you will have a key role alongside the rest of the Strategy and Business Growth team to develop commercial opportunities and support business decision-making.
**Core Responsibilities (day-to-day)**:
- **
Intelligence gathering** - Monitor 1st and 2nd party sources to get a wide view of how the market is moving, how competitors are performing and evolving, and how consumers are behaving. Work with our data and insight teams to augment the wider view on external market forces
- **
Data amalgamation & analysis** - Pull together various information sources and analyse data to derive actionable insights for the business. Combine gathered intelligence to build a comprehensive view of the market and develop a strategic playbook on how we best-position for success
- **
Sharing Market Intelligence with the business**:
- Establish the processes to share insights with a wide array of stakeholders and senior business leaders. Effectively partner with key teams (e.g. marketing, product, retention) to advance understanding and influence decision-making
- **
Support ad-hoc projects** - work with the Strategy and Business Growth team across ad-hoc projects to help identify, analyse and develop new opportunities
**Experience, skills and professional attributes**:
- **Strong technical analysis** - highly capable in data analysis and manipulation, breaking-down and synthesising customer, competitor, and market information
- **
Sophisticated critical thinking** - converting complex customer and market information into actionable insights, with a deep understanding of the wider business implications
- **
Great communication skills** - clearly advocating to multiple stakeholders the value of Market Intelligence to foster more effective commercial decision-making
- **
Attention to detail** - you sweat the details and take care in your work so that you deliver to a consistently excellent standard
- A problem-solver, not a task do-er, comfortable working both autonomously and as a key part of a dynamic and influential team
- A positive attitude and a sense of humour certainly helps
