Overview of a Senior Policy Officer
The Main Purpose of a Senior Policy Officer:

- To provide rigour and support to the community cohesion function of the Council and undertake qualitative and quantitative analysis, research, and review programmes to support this, ensuring rigorous methodologies are applied to projects
- To support the Head of Community Cohesion by deputising for her/him.
- To support the Head of Community Cohesion by having functional oversight of the collective responsibilities of the community cohesion team and offering advice and guidance to community cohesion officers in this context.
- To provide strategic community cohesion policy advice and support to the Head of Paid Service, Corporate Strategic Board, the Leader, Portfolio Holders and the Scrutiny Leadership Group.
- To build collective, cross-council and inter-agency policy support for the development of the corporate community cohesion direction of the authority, engaging with executive and scrutiny councillors, senior managers partners and Government Departments.
- To oversee, co-ordinate and manage the planning of and support to meetings of Harrow's strategic partnerships and senior management bodies.
- To support with the councils' resettlements programmes, including Afghans and Syrian programmes
- To assist with the case load with resettlement programmes
- To lead on the case management of the council's resettlement programmes
- To lend managers capacity with the case management of programmes
- To liaise with officers and managers working with the resettlement programs.
- Skilled at working in a policy area
- Skilled at working in a rage of policies including locally, nationally regionally
- To be able to provide overview of project finances
- Good understanding and development of applied research methodologies
- Substantial experience of policy research
- Excellent written skills, especially report writing skills
- Self-motivating and able to initiate projects and motivate others
- Experience of managing and conducting research projects
