**About this job**:
An opportunity has arisen to work within the council's Private Sector Housing Team as a Principal Housing Enforcement Officer to lead our Private Sector Housing Enforcement Team and ensure that all privately rented properties meet the appropriate standards and provide safe accommodation to our residents.

The Private Sector Housing Team at Barking and Dagenham is part of a larger group of Regulatory Services within the Law and Governance Directorate.

The purpose of this role is to lead our private sector housing enforcement team and to support the Team Manager in respect of development and operational management.

The post holder will ensure that the private sector housing enforcement team works collaboratively to ensure we improve quality, safety, and choice of residential accommodation in Barking and Dagenham through a range of professional and specialist interventions including, education, support, and enforcement action under relevant legislation. You will also support the boroughs aims in respect of taking robust enforcement action against criminal landlords.

The post holder will support the improvement of standards in private sector housing, ensuring properties are safe for occupation, landlords comply with legislation and that residents behave in accordance with civic pride. You will support in the driving local improvements by ensuring the most appropriate course of action is taken in respect of non-compliance.

You will be a flexible, dynamic, and enthusiastic team leader with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to your duties to get them completed as efficiently as possible. You will have a thorough understanding of Private Sector Housing and associated Public Health legislation and the current emerging issues and developments in the field. You will be passionate about improving the quality, safety, and choice of residential accommodation in the Borough and committed to making a difference to our private rented tenants and their families.
