With a successful Cultural Development Fund bid and an ambitious strategy to uplift the global profile of the museums and galleries within the City through the development of its sites and enhancement of exhibitions, programmes, and partnerships, there is an incredible investment in the City and its cultural offering. The museum service comprises of two main museums and galleries, The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery and Gladstone Pottery Museum, alongside providing leadership across other local cultural sites and collections. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and leading one of the UK’s historical centres of culture and creativity.

The City of Stoke-on-Trent is now seeking an inspiring leader to join as our Head of Museums and Arts who will lead and drive forward an ambitious strategy and vision. Alongside providing strategic leadership across the City’s museums and galleries, the role holder will be crucial to leading major capital projects across the service and developing and delivering strategic plans for future growth and transformation. They will also play a key role in engaging diverse audiences and growing the service’s platform and the national and international recognition of Stoke-on-Trent’s unique heritage and material history.

The Head of Museums and Arts will also ensure that the service is creating a dynamic and engaging environment with an emphasis on art and culture’s impact on health, well-being and economic prosperity, as well as fostering a truly inclusive and accessible place in which visitors can explore, learn, and connect with history and heritage.

The City of Stoke-on-Trent will be assisted in this appointment by global executive search firm Perrett Laver.
