Drum Plant Operator

**Duties/Responsibilities**:

- To carry out daily safety checks on all equipment at the start of each shift and report any defective equipment to the Shift Manager and/or the Engineering Team. To ensure all safety systems are followed, the appropriate PPE is worn and safety equipment is used for its intended purpose at all times. To promote a high standard of health and safety within the department, through own actions and by instruction to others, including but not limited to ensuring compliance with all site, company and legal requirements.
- Report any unsafe act or condition to the relevant personnel. Take immediate and appropriate corrective action to make the situation safe before reporting via the Near Miss system
- To ensure the work area is kept clean and tidy at all times.
- Remove excess waste materials to the appropriate waste skip and to ensure any spills are cleaned up immediately in line with site procedures.
- Be familiar with the drum storage locations and ensure that the card index system and all electronic records (blend sheet etc.) is kept up-to-date. Ensure all systems are updated whenever drums are relocated.
- Operate the Fork Lift trucks provided in a safe and efficient manner and report any defects to the relevant personnel.
- To follow the drum blending program, locate required stock and bring up to the Drum Prep area, loading drums onto the conveyor as and when required.
- To Start, Operate and shut down the Drum Plants safely and according to procedure.
- To operate the Tank farm in accordance to procedure and ensure the Storage tank capacities are not exceeded.
- To be able to shut the plant down safely in the event of an emergency arising.
- To communicate with Drum Plant and South Site Staff and move tanks forward as and when required.
- To tip skips of plant waste and scrap metal to the appropriate location at the appropriate time.
- To operate a stock rotation system as directed by the Drum Plant Manager.
- To undertake any associated operational or safety training as requested by the Drum Plant Manager.
- To ensure that shift handovers are carried out at the workstation and that all aspects of the job are communicated effectively, in line with relevant procedures.
- To assist in the month end collation of data and checking of stock and storage compound compliance and providing all required information in a timely manner.
- To provide cover for holidays where required and provide sickness cover, as necessary and possibly at short notice.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Fork lift truck licence
- Experience working within the hazardous waste industry
- Confined space entry training
- First aid at work training
- Chemical awareness training
- Maintenance experience relating to pumps, pipes and tanks.
- Engineering or chemical background.
- IOSH level 1

**Working hours/overtime**:
Working hours are based on a 3 week rotating pattern, (over Monday to Friday), days and nights (12 hours shifts, 06.00-18:00 or 18:00-06:00) example as follows:
Week 1- 3 x 12 hr night shifts
Week 2- 3 x 12hr day shifts
Week 3 - 2 x 12hr days, 1 day off and then 2 x 12hr nights.
with 2 x 30 minutes paid breaks, amounting to an average of 40 hours per week. Overtime is available at weekends when required.
