National

This job post will be advertised for a minimum period of two weeks on LinkedIn. After this time please apply directly to until the closing date of 5pm Monday 10 November.

The Church of England Pensions Board provides retirement services for those who work or minister for the Church. It is the Trustee of three pension schemes, administers pensions for over 41,000 people working for more than 700 employers and is a charity which supports around 2700 retired clergy and their dependants, mainly through affordable rental housing, shared ownership, and supported living schemes. Pensions and charitable funds under investment total in excess of £3.7bn and the Pensions Board actively engages with companies it invests in, in line with its robust, industry-leading ethical investment policies. This is an exciting time to join us, as the Pensions Board continues to deliver a significant programme of transformational change. We continue to see strong investment returns despite volatile markets and we are currently in consultation for how the model of retirement housing might evolve in the coming years to ensure services best meet changing needs and are generationally acceptable.

We are now seeking to appoint two Trustees as existing members reach the end of their terms. The role involves working with the other trustees and with the Executive Team to ensure that the best interests of our customers are met and secure. Our trustees set and review the purpose and vision of the Board, contribute to its strategy and hold the Executive Team and the Board's staff responsible for their performance. Trustees also play an active role in our committees.

With a proven ability to help shape strategy and ensure robust governance arrangements gained in a complex organisation, you will have the intellectual rigour, relationship skills and political sensitivity to be credible and influential within a diverse trustee board and with all our key stakeholders. Prior experience within pensions or investments would be advantageous, but we are open to a diverse set of skills and experiences. This is no ordinary trustee role and we are looking for somebody who will share our vision and our values. We take diversity seriously and see a wide-ranging diversity at Board level as key to delivering our purpose. Currently people with disabilities, LGBT+, the minority and ethnic communities and younger people are under-represented on the Board, and we welcome nominations from these communities.

Previous knowledge of the Church of England is not required as it is through your broader experience, insight, intellectual rigour and judgement that you will bring to the Board. The appointments are unremunerated, carry a five-year term and are to commence with induction in January 2026.
