Location: Learner's home or community setting
Hours: Flexible, sessional
Rate: £30 per hour
About Lets Make Change
Lets Make Change provides bespoke, high-quality educational and therapeutic programmes to learners who are not currently accessing mainstream education. Many of the children and young people we work with face barriers to learning linked to SEND, SEMH needs, trauma, anxiety, or disrupted education experiences.
Our aim is to re-engage learners through personalised 1–1 sessions that build confidence, develop core academic skills, and help each learner progress at a pace that works for them.
Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and motivated English Tutor to deliver flexible 1–1 tuition to learners in the community or within their home environment. You will support learners working toward Functional Skills English or GCSE English qualifications, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs and promote positive engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver 1–1 English tutoring sessions, tailored to the learner's ability, goals, and additional needs.
- Deliver content aligned to Functional Skills English (Entry Level to Level 2) and/or GCSE English Language.
- Assess learner progress and produce clear, concise reports when required.
- Use adaptive teaching approaches for learners with SEND and SEMH barriers, ensuring sessions remain engaging, supportive and trauma-informed.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, and local authorities to support learner progress.
- Create a safe, supportive learning environment within the home or community.
- Maintain professional boundaries, safeguarding practices, and confidentiality at all times.
- Follow all LMC policies, including Safeguarding, Behaviour, Data Protection, and Health & Safety.
Experience & Requirements
Essential:
- Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or GCSE English.
- Experience supporting young people with SEND or SEMH needs, or those disengaged from education.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with learners and families.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own timetable and planning.
Desirable:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or relevant teaching/tutoring qualification.
- Experience working in alternative provision, tutoring, youth work or mentoring.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity, and differentiation techniques.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is preferred, but LMC can support the successful applicant in obtaining one if required.
Why Work With LMC?
- Flexible, rewarding 1–1 work with learners who benefit from personalised support.
- Competitive hourly rate.
- The chance to make a meaningful difference to young people who face barriers to education.
- Supportive organisation with clear safeguarding, training, and quality-assurance processes.
Job Type: Part-time
