London, Greater London, United Kingdom Canopius Full time £40,000 - £60,000 per year
Description

The Role

Canopius has an established team of underwriters and claims adjusters working collaboratively to provide exceptional customer service and practical solutions to our clients. The team handles claims arising from a wide range of risks and this role will focus on Credit & Political Risk and Crisis Management (CPC) claims. Canopius is a leading insurer in this field, providing protection against risks such as non-payment, illegal government intervention, sabotage and terrorism. This breadth of underwriting interest creates a unique opportunity for an individual interested in claims to build a comprehensive knowledge of the political risk and credit world, working closely with internal political and legal experts in addition to our underwriters.

Our Claims Vision is "to continually push the boundaries of customer excellence through an empowered, collaborative and innovative approach to claims; to be the envy of the market" and is at the core of everything we do. Canopius is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Claims Adjuster. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Claims Adjuster in the London insurance market; experience in CPC claims is advantageous but we are committed to the development of a diverse team and very open to applications from adjusters with experience in different classes of business (such as Financial Lines, Political Violence or Property) who would like the opportunity to specialise in an exciting niche class of business. The successful candidate will learn to proactively and independently adjust political risk and credit claims from initial notification through to settlement.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the claims within the Credit & Political Risk and Crisis Management portfolio and monitor circumstances that may turn into claims (whether in relation to individual risks or global events, such as the war in Ukraine).

  • Proactively adjust claims within their claims authority and in accordance with the Canopius claims manual; ensuring and delivering the very highest service to all our customers by effectively driving claims through to resolution.

  • Ensure that adequate financial provisions are maintained and reported appropriately.

  • Nurture and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; in particular with the underwriters for these classes of business.

  • Instruct and proactively work with panel lawyers, adjusters, and experts to ensure the best outcomes whilst controlling costs and reducing claims leakage.

Skills and experience:

  • A positive, enthusiastic and confident disposition.

  • A passion for learning and a keen interest in current events.

  • A strategic thinker with strong communication skills; able to articulate their point of view in a clear and considered manner.

  • A collaborative and thoughtful approach to working with other stakeholders in the claims process (underwriters, brokers, insureds).

  • Customer focused and keen to provide the highest quality of service delivery.

  • Able to work both independently and as a team player.

  • Willingness to take responsibility and accountability.

  • Act with honesty, integrity and fairness at all times.

  • Ability to prioritise and proactively meet deadlines.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the Lloyd's insurance market and an understanding of the claims function, but this is not essential.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and openness to using AI would be advantageous.

Competencies:

Stakeholder engagement

Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with relevant internal or external stakeholders, effectively involving and communicating with them to drive collaboration, support, and alignment towards shared goals.

Collaboration and teamwork:

Works effectively with team, project or other work groups or those outside formal line of authority to accomplish goals. Actively participates as a member of a team; develops and builds cohesive team relations to produce required outputs; possesses knowledge and understanding of colleagues work.

Adapting to change:

Adjusts thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to handle new, challenging, or complex situations; embracing change as a growth opportunity when working within new work structures, processes, regulations, or requirements.
